Motion Sensing Using the Doppler Effect

The doppler effect is a phenomenon which affects waves in motion. The standard example is the effect on a fire engine siren as it quickly drives past. When it moves towards you the sound waves are compressed, and so the frequency becomes higher, and when it moves away from you the frequency becomes lower.

This phenomenon would also happen if you were to move towards or away from the siren. Doppler Motion Sensing uses this phenomenon to detect motion gestures towards and away from your android phone, and filters these gestures into 4 events: Push, Pull, Tap, and Double Tap.

This app demonstrates potential applications for the Doppler Motion Sensing library for android: https://github.com/jasper-lu/doppler-android.
